Preschool Spanish

Preschool Spanish will be an immersion style class for ages 3-5. Your child must be three at the beginning of the year to participate in this class. We will have a song for each month and some basic phrases we will learn through games. This class will contain lots of games and movement. Your child will learn through immersion and repetition. I will give moms lists of the vocabulary we are practicing, so that you can reinforce at home if you would like.

Elementary Spanish

Elementary Spanish is split into two age groups: Kinder-Second and Third- Fifth. The younger class will use a curriculum that includes music, occasional videos, movement, crafts, and puppets. Your children will not be sitting at tables and doing worksheets. They will be learning movements to songs, going on scavenger hunts, creating puppets to help them practice conversation, and having fun! The older class will have some time when they will practice the writing/reading portion of the language with a lot of focus on the alphabet- the names of the letters and the sounds they make. This will help them be ready to read in Spanish before the year is over! However, class will not only be sitting and reading; they will also have fun games and challenges.

Middle School Spanish

Middle school Spanish is a great opportunity for your child to get a taste of Spanish without being overwhelmed by tons of assignments or pressure.  Our classes will be an engaging look into the language as well as the Latin American culture. We will spend 75% of the classes playing games and doing activities that will help your child become comfortable speaking the Spanish they will be learning. We will do some vocabulary and exercises to stress the grammar points, but the majority of the class will be interactive. These classes are not graded, and we do not use textbooks. Your child will have a project in the springtime and about 15- 20 mins of homework a week.

High School Spanish

High School Spanish is worth one credit and is for high school students ONLY. The homework load will be heavy, and I do not suggest pushing your child to take this course early. We will take a more rigorous approach to language learning than that offered in middle school Spanish; however, that does not mean we will not have fun. We play a game each week and find fun ways to practice some of the grammar points and vocabulary.

I will be doing all grading, testing, etc, so do not worry about having to do assignments with them. I will also provide my contact information to the students and encourage them to contact me outside of class hours if they don't understand. Homework will be up to one hour every day we are not in class. I have also created an online component that the students will use every week to answer discussion questions and hear their vocabulary words spoken as well as complete some speaking exercises. I will also be offering Spanish II next year.

We run four months each semester. Spanish I starts out as only partial immersion. Spanish II is complete immersion.
